MR. DUMPLING

Yes, One-a strange man appears and gives our girl a hat. Two-this hat causes our girl to undergo an epileptic seizure of sorts so that-three-Mr. Dumpling, Mrs. Dumpling, and Josef are required to comfort our poor, unfortunate daughter by offering her games and amusements so that she can hope to grow to live a normal and productive life.

THE MAN

And that's what happened?

MR. DUMPLING

And that's just what happened.

JOSEF

And your animal hoop tricks didn't help much either.

MRS. DUMPLING

Nor your fiddling with the lights.

THE MAN

I see.

VALERIE

(Coming to) You mean this was all his fault?

MRS. DUMPLING

I am afraid so, dear.

VALERIE

You mean I'm only a victim of circumstance?

MRS. DUMPLING

I'm afraid it appears that way.

VALERIE

(To The Man) Why you, you, you! You are a terrible, terrible man!

MRS. DUMPLING

Valerie!!!

As The Man exits, the lights dim.

MRS. DUMPLING

Do you know what you've done?

VALERIE

What? What did I do?

JOSEF

You shouldn't have said that, Val.

VALERIE

Said what? Said what?

FX: Sound of wind blowing

MRS. DUMPLING

Here it comes.

VALERIE

What?

JOSEF

The spirits are angry.

VALERIE

Are they?

FX: The wind grows louder

MR. DUMPLING

We had better prepare.

FX: Lights change again. The wind is very loud now.

Mr.D/Mrs.D/Val/Jos form a low circular interlocked figure. Their arms around one another's backs. They move in a contrasting anti-clockwise and clockwise manner. Eventually, the form moves in a spiral to an Exit.

FX: Wind out.
