THE MAN

A young woman buys a hat and goes home to show it off to Mr. and Mrs. Dumpling who are reading a newspaper. They play a game together with their friend...

Crossfade to Valerie, Josef, Mr. and Mrs. Dumpling

MR. DUMPLING

And that's just what happened.

JOSEF

That's an awful peculiar story you have there, sir.

VALERIE

But then what happened, Daddy Dumpling?

JOSEF

Yes, what happened next?

MRS. DUMPLING

Give him a chance, dears.

VALERIE

Oh, do tell us, Daddy. Tell us, Tell us, Tell us!

MRS. DUMPLING

Valerie!

VALERIE

(Going to Mr. Dumpling and smothering him with kisses.)
You will tell us, Daddy. Won't you? Won't you? You will tell us.

MR. DUMPLING

I will tell you what happened.

VALERIE

(On the floor in glee)
Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! Oh, thank YOU, Daddy Dumpling.

JOSEF

Thank you, sir.

MR. DUMPLING

Yes and then Mrs. Dumpling ate all the orange marmalade and made the children cry.

MRS. DUMPLING

Don't tell them that, Daddy.

VALERIE

Did you, Mummy?

MR. DUMPLING

Yes. She ate all the orange marmalade, because she was going on a long trip to a land where orange marmalade was almost completely unknown.

VALERIE

Where was she going? Where, Where, Where?

MR. DUMPLING

She was going to the Land of Smile and Nod where everyone is kind and friendly.

JOSEF

The Land of Smile and Nod

MR. DUMPLING

Where everyone is kind and friendly

JOSEF

That sounds good.

MR. DUMPLING

It was, Josef.

MRS. DUMPLING

Except for the marmalade, Daddy.

MR. DUMPLING

Except for the marmalade. For that they had none.

VALERIE

Oh, the poor, poor Smilers and Nodders

MR. DUMPLING

Only one small jar...

MRS. DUMPLING

Tiny
