VALERIE
(Rising to grab her cup)
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. You know how much sugar! You know how much everything... You are so...

MRS. DUMPLING

Valerie!

VALERIE

He's so...

JOSEF

Take it easy, Val.

VALERIE

You're all so... AHHH!
(She strikes a dramatic pose and freezes)

MRS. DUMPLING

(Assisting her) My dainty dear! Drink your tea, lotus petal. There's my little angel of light. Let the strength flow back in. There she is. Yes, my darling rainbow delight. Yes.

JOSEF

All right, Val?

MRS. DUMPLING

It's all better, darling dumpling. It's all better now.

Crossfade to The Man

Enter Mrs. Dumpling, Josef, and Mr. Dumpling carrying Valerie still frozen in her dramatic pose.

THE MAN

Let's see. You buy a hat-one. Two-you go home to show it off to Mr. and Mrs. Dumpling who are reading a newspaper. Three-you play a game when your friend Josef arrives after which you are recipients of good fortune and sit around attempting dubious records of a disreputable nature. Is that it?

JOSEF

That's not it.

MR. DUMPLING

No

MRS. DUMPLING

No

JOSEF

No, sir.

MRS. DUMPLING

Not a word of it.

MR. DUMPLING

No

MRS. DUMPLING

Tell him, Mr. Dumpling

MR. DUMPLING

I will tell him.

MRS. DUMPLING

Yes, dear. You do that.

MR. DUMPLING

Shall I?

JOSEF

You tell him, sir.

MR. DUMPLING

Shall I?

MRS. DUMPLING

Yes

VALERIE

(Still frozen but exasperated)
Tell him!
